Expedition Headwaters: Complete!
April 4th, 2007 Sandra Friend
Yesterday Rob and I showed up for the photo finish of Expedition Headwaters, the 12-day trip down the Kissimmee River valley that my friend Beth was so fortunate to be a part of. All of the team had a blast. As I suspected, the hikers were well ahead of the kayakers (it’s just plain shorter to hike that last segment) and had to wait for the “on camera” moment of meeting each other at Lake Okeechobee, where they proceeded to get into a mudslinging battle with the Channel 13 News crew that documented the trip. And I do mean that literally. I think the cameras were rolling when anchor Virginia Johnson got the mud washed out of her hair with some champagne. There are clips from each day of the expedition on Channel 13’s website, which you can get to from the Florida Trail website for the time being. Kudos to our “hiyakers” who made it all the way from Shingle Creek to Lake Okeechobee!
