Join our hiker family for the 31st Annual New Years Eve Campout, from 3 PM December 28 to noon on January 2, in the Ocala National Forest at Doe Lake Recreation Area.
Organized by the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Trail Association, it’s a long weekend of guided outdoor activities, with collaborative meals (bring food and drinks!) fixed in a big kitchen and served in the historic Civilian Conservation Corps dining hall. Sit back in the evening and enjoy slide shows and talks from attendees who’ve traveled around the country and the world. We’ll be sharing our adventures from Iceland on New Years’ Eve.
It’s a tradition to stay up until midnight around the bonfire for the New Years’ Eve countdown, followed by a good-luck meal of black-eyed-peas, greens, and cornbread.
This is a private outdoors event, with FTA members and their guests welcome to attend and camp on the grounds. There are two large flat areas that work well for RVs and campers, one in the sun, the other in the shade. Tents are welcome too. Camping costs $5 per person per day donation to the Central Florida Chapter, with ages over 75 and under 18 free.
Bring your daypacks, bikes, kayaks, and canoes … and don’t forget your camp chair! Stay as little or as long as you like.
