Why a Newsletter?
FloridaHikes.com was founded in 2006 by Sandra out of the frustration that followed by having a series of hiking books published and no way to inform readers that trails had changed.
Particularly in Florida, where we have few landforms other than floodplains for trails to follow, but plenty of storms that affect trail routes and infrastructure, there was a need to communicate these updates.
A version of our eNews started around 2009. While it has changed through the years, it has generally been a round-up of what’s new on the hiking scene in Florida and what’s new on this website, plus upcoming outdoor events and our speaking engagements. Of course, we always let you know when we have a new book being published, too.
When John joined Sandra in researching and sharing trail information back in 2012, he brought new areas of interest and new skill sets to the team, being a lifelong paddler and long distance touring cyclist. We decided to expand Florida Hikes “beyond the hikes” to include biking, paddling, and camping. And so the eNews changed to fit.
After completing several focused research trips in 2018, we thought: why not provide details about one topic, or one place, so you can follow in our footsteps? And so for 2019, we’ve launched a simpler, more information-rich newsletter based on an outdoor destination or theme. You can browse through back issues in the archives below.
As always, we are extremely respectful of you sharing your email address with us. While it is stored with our mailing list service provider (Mad Mimi), we do not share it with third parties, ever. Every newsletter has a link at the bottom of it where you can unsubscribe if you wish. We appreciate you coming along with us through Florida’s outdoors and hope you’ll continue to follow our adventures through the newsletter, website, and our social media channels.
We try to send the eNews out monthly except during the summer months (June through September), when we may produce an edition or two. We usually are either busy working on our next book or enjoying the outdoors somewhere cooler than Florida in the summertime!
