Found this great trail near our home and took my wife for a hike on Saturday. We read the signs reading caution concerning alligators, we anticipated being disappointed by the typical few and far between sightings. NOT SO.
There were alligators skittering from the path the whole time causing us to jump and many time sending my wife into my willing arms. We got used to the small ones spotting well over 30, but the big boys put the fear of death into my heart a few times. Three of these predators were worthy of a nature show, nothing to take lightly or scoff at.
The best places were near the northeast corner and between the southwest corner and the southeast corner of the loop. Not for the faint hearted. Don’t take children. Don’t take pets. Don’t go alone. You will get your feet wet. Take a walking stick and PAY ATTENTION. My new favorite trail.
