Today, Sandy and I were going to complete a new section of the Florida Trail that she had not been on since a re-route. All that changed when I spotted a very nice looking VW Camper for sale online, and it turned out to be not far from our home. Good ones are few and far between, and the good ones often have prices that are just way too high.
This one had only 82,000 miles, was still in its original paint, and had almost no rust. It sounded so nice that we postponed our planned hike. As I said, I enjoy all sorts of things beside hiking.
When we arrived to see the camper, we both fell in love with it. Yes, a thirty-two-year-old VW Camper can do that. But only if you are one of “those people.” And yes, WE are. As soon as we said yes, a pair of sandhill cranes swooped down overhead, over us and the camper, as to tell us we’d made the right decision.
Hiking plans for tomorrow are on the back burner as we head to the DMV to do the paperwork. Then it’s back on the trail, knowing that our “new” antique camper will be waiting for us at trailheads in the future.
