Two new Central Florida hikes are now available at Florida Hikes! Both offer virtual tours, so be sure to click on the Tour tab for an armchair walk through each hike.
Hontoon Island State Park is the only Florida State Park reached by a free ferryboat; the island is in the middle of the St. Johns River near Deland. The Indian Mound Nature Trail is a 3.3-mile round trip through a spectacular hydric hammock, and it ends at a large midden. The Hike.
PEAR Environmental Park is a relatively young park just south of Leesburg. The “P” stands for Palatlakaha, a river that makes its way north from the Green Swamp through a chain of lakes on the west side of Lake County. By the time it gets here, there isn’t much more than a creek left, but the 3-mile round trip lets you experience the high river bluffs shaded by ancient oaks and learn a bit about native plants along the way. The Hike.
Both of these are beautiful hikes, well worth a visit!
