Our Big O Hike came to a grinding halt early, and not for want of walking. With clear skies above and one of John’s old friends joining us, I was looking forward to a stroll through Indian Prairie. Life intervened.
I’d had some mild tooth pains before I’d seen the dentist two weeks ago but nothing much to note. On one of our 50-degree Okeechobee mornings, I was eating breakfast – a Powerbar, hardened by the coolness – when one of my molars shattered.
Thus began “the agony of the teeth.” it’s never good to have a non-life-threatening but excruciatingly painful injury during a long holiday weekend. My dentist prescribed painkillers and antibiotics, but I won’t even be able to make an appointment for oral surgery until Monday.
Worried about dehydrating while hiking with mega tooth pain (straw required to drink liquid) we switched outdoor strategies and are working on services information for the new Florida Trail guidebook instead of hiking. Quite a few changes here in South Florida! While the hike goes on another day, we’re slipping out early to finish research and head back home to start putting the new book together.
