It’s April, and that means one important thing in Florida: our prime hiking season is coming to a close. We can tell from the number of ticks we’re pulling off our hiking pants; we can tell by the heat and humidity, too.
So it’s time for the season’s swan song, a state-spanning sojourn that’s gone on for a week now. We’ve shared bits and pieces from the road on Facebook, but being in the thick of trail research means writing about it takes lower priority than just doing it.
We’re focused on the Florida Trail, of course, working on updates to The Florida Trail Guide and app as well as future books and website content. And around every corner, there’s a surprise. New campsites, trail relocations, views that have changed over the years.
It’s tiring work, walking the miles and spending every evening organizing the photos and data we collect, but it’s a lot of fun, too. Watch for more peeks at the Florida Trail in its cloak of spring green as we ramble on.
