Little Manatee River Hiking Trail

Tampa Tribune says Take a Hike

The Tampa Tribune calls out Florida Hikes in the news to encourage you to get outdoors and take a hike this winter season

And I agree with them! The weather couldn’t be more perfect. Just think of all those poor folks up in New England under piles of ice and snow and without power. Then take a look out your window here in Florida.  Where better for a hike?

Here’s the article in the Trib, which kindly mentions this website. During my many hikes in the Tampa Bay area for “50 Hikes in Central Florida” and “Hiker’s Guide,” I explored so many places where you’d never expect to find a place to hike, especially in the urban mass of Pinellas County.  They’ve pinpointed a handful on their map, which stretches from Inverness to Sarasota but between you and me, I could easily add at least a hundred more places to that eight county list. Here are the ones you’ll find on Florida Hikes! right now:

Caladesi Island State Park
Chinsegut Wildlife & Environmental Area
Citrus Hiking Trail
Hillsborough River State Park
Fort De Soto Park
Lettuce Lake Park
Little Manatee River Hiking Trail
Withlacoochee River Park

Why not more? Well, of course I’d like you to get out and buy the guidebooks. But there’s also the matter of time, since this website is a one-person operation with no financial support. It helps I’m now creating a Hike-A- Week for those who sign up for my new mailing list … it gives me a deadline, and it gives you somewhere new to hike every week before I have the time to post the info on this website.
