It’s spring, which means the trails of Florida’s Panhandle are ablaze in a variety of native plant blooms, from wild azalea to red buckeye, columbine, mountain laurel, and several native varieties of pitcher plants that are especially showy this time of year. Yellow River Marsh Preserve is an easy place to see pitcher plants along unmarked trails that ramble through the wet flatwoods near Blackwater Bay. Bring a GPS or compass to navigate your way through this wild preserve, which is south of I-10’s Bagdad exit along CR 191.
