About the Park
At the park entrance is a large kiosk showcasing the East Coast Greenway. This park serves as a day use trailhead for cyclists.
Part of the Greenway, the Timucuan Trail parallels A1A from this terminus south across the Talbot Islands.
It continues across the St. Johns River via the Mayport Ferry to its southern terminus at oceanfront Hanna Park in Mayport.
Trail kioskThe south end of the parking area has a sand road leading to the beach, enabling motorists to drive on Fernandina Beach.
Motorists must stay within the marked corridor. Equestrians also use this access point to ride south along the shoreline.
Hoofprints in soft sandSeveral long, accessible boardwalks top the dunes. Dune Walk 103 has a beach mat at its end.
Each boardwalk offers outstanding panoramas of this habitat of swales and crests with the Atlantic Ocean spanning the horizon.
Dune walksUse Dune Walk 103 to reach the beach. Cross the vehicle lane and walk the white sands waterfront north to the park’s edge.
Dune Walk 101 provides a return route with short staircases and stellar views along it. A scenic circuit using these dune walks is a little over a quarter mile.
The scrubby dunes are full of birdsong and home to gopher tortoisesExpand on that significantly by walking either direction along the beach.
Where tinted orange, the coquina-laden sands are quite soft. Stick to the white sands outside the vehicle lane.
