Privacy Policy
Updated June 2020
Your privacy is of utmost concern. We collect personal information (your name and/or email) in four places: our contact form, comments left on the website, forms to sign up for mailing lists, and purchases made through Paypal.
If you contact us through our contact form, we use your email address to respond to you. That’s it. If you contact us with a question or comment that needs to be answered by a land manager or nonprofit associated with the public land that you are asking us about, we will connect you with the appropriate agency or person.
Your Rights
You always have the right to be removed from our mailing lists or to delete a comment or information you’ve provided to us as an article or photo. If it isn’t obvious how to do that yourself, simply contact us and we’ll take care of it.
Comments
If you leave a comment on this website, your email is required by our software. You can choose to post a comment or not. Your email is used for no other purpose than to link to and show a gravtar (image of yourself) that you may have posted on gravatar.com. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
When you leave a comment, the Akismet anti-spam service collects your IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by you such as your name, username, email address, and the comment itself). If you want an old comment removed, simply contact us with a link to the page it is on, and we will delete it for you. We reserve the right to periodically remove old comments that are no longer relevant to current trail conditions, and to abstain from posting comments that are not in good taste for our broad audience.
Mailing Lists
If you sign up for a mailing list, we will email you occasionally on the topic you signed up for, usually no more than once a month. There will always be a link at the end of those emails so you can unsubscribe from the mailing list. You can also contact us directly to be removed from any and all mailing lists you have signed up for on this website.
When you purchase a book from us via Paypal, Paypal retains your email and address so we may contact you about the transaction. We do not store that information on our website, nor do we share it with anyone other than printing it on a shipping label at our home when your book is shipped. If you order a copy of The Florida Trail Guide or Florida Trail Hikes, we copy your email into the mailing list for periodic updates to the guidebook to inform you of any changes to the Florida Trail since you purchased the book. As explained above, you can unsubscribe from that mailing list the first time you receive an email, or contact us directly to be removed from the list.
Embedded Content
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. YouTube is the main embedded content we use to show our videos of the trails, and Flickr for photo galleries. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website when you visit us.

For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site.
