Now in its 40th year, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter has moved.
This nonprofit has outgrown their gorgeous complex in a cypress strand and wet flatwoods adjoining water treatment wetlands administered by the Loxahatchee River District.
Their new location west of Interstate 95 along Indiantown Rd is now open, providing their animals more room to roam.

About the Sanctuary
Since 1983, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary has looked after injured wildlife. They are one of the largest wildlife intake and hospital facilities in Florida.
Their focus is on native Florida species, rehabilitating animals to return to their natural habitats. Sometimes, of course, it isn’t possible to do so.
An injured Florida box turtleAny injury that prevents an animal from fending for itself means they’ll find a permanent home and care at the sanctuary.
The former complex deftly made use of natural habitats, placing enclosures in habitats where the animals roam, like the alligators in the cypress swamp.
Florida pantherFlorida black bears and Florida panthers had their own massive enclosures in pine flatwoods along a looping nature trail.
A spur off the trail lead to an overlook on the adjoining manmade wetlands facility, a prime spot for birding.
Loxahatchee River District WetlandsThe facility has always been a favorite of families with young children, which is why we’ve visited more than once with nieces and nephews.
This campus shuttered on September 9, 2023. The new one in Jupiter Farms is now open to visitors. Once we have a chance to see it ourselves, we’ll update our details here.
Meanwhile, we hope their former complex of boardwalks and nature trails on Loxahatchee River District lands is reborn as another family hiking destination in Jupiter.
